Plan Your Marketing
It’s the end of the year, and you’ve reviewed the year’s results with your team.
Now with the New Year fast approaching, it’s good for sales and marketing to use this information to put together a plan to improve the business going forward.
Analyzing sales goals and activities alongside marketing activities will provide an integrated business development focus to your plan and get everyone on the same page.
Start with marketing
Were we speaking to the right audience last year? Were we reaching them via the right marketing channel(s)? Was our brand message clear? How was effectiveness measured?
Incoming leads are a common metric for marketing effectiveness. What marketing activities generated the most leads last year? How can that sales generation activity be expanded or duplicated? What percent of those leads resulted in sales? What steps can be taken to increase the number of sales converted from those leads?
Then sales
What activity generated the most sales? What were some of the reasons this activity was successful? And, how can some of those reasons be carried over to other sales activities?
Your sales and marketing team should then evaluate the length of the current sales cycle and time engaged with staff per sales lead. (The goal is to keep staff engaged at points that are pivotal rather than trivial in the sales cycle.) Reviewing the current sales process, is there a way to shorten the active sales cycle?
