How to Convert Your Website Visitors into Sales Prospects

Great news! After searching online for a product or service you provide, a new visitor has landed on your website.

Now, if you’re like every other manufacturer or service provider in business, you want your visitor to like what they see and to reach out and contact you.

3 stages of a visitor’s peruse of your website

However, there are three stages when this potential customer may give up on perusing your website and leave without taking any action. Below are the 3 stages and how you can move your potential customer past each one:

Stage One: Your first and biggest hurdle. You’ve got up to 20 seconds to capture your visitor’s interest. They’ll graze the website page headings, look at any pictures and cruise through any highlighted text to decide if they’re interested or not. Therefore each item on the page must be relevant to your visitor’s initial search.

Stage Two: Survive the first stage and your chances of a call or inquiry are improved, but you don’t have a lock on it yet. All that’s happened is that your visitor has found satisfactory answers to their first round of questions. Now, they’ll look for answers to a new round of questions.

What the visitor encounters next must spell out the benefits they’ll receive from your product or service. Provide proof with research, data, customer testimonials, video demonstrations, etc. and your chances of an inquiry increase greatly.

Stage Three: Even if your visitor finds everything they’re looking for initially, they may still choose not to call or email you. They may have a decision to make, a question to answer or they just don’t have the funds right now. They could also be inclined to behave like most humans and put off for tomorrow what they can do today.

To counteract this, your website must make it easy to contact you with chat or quick “click to call” functionality. Strong calls to action that convey a sense of urgency are also needed in order to persuade your visitor to reach out immediately.

If your visitor does leave your website without taking action, you can also choose to prompt them to reconsider with a digital retargeting ad campaign.
